Sawfly Reports
Report of the Wiltshire Sawfly Recorder, 2010
"In total, 260 records were added to the database of which 14 were received from observers other than the county recorder. The county database now holds 4200 records of 301 species."
SAWFLIES ANNUAL REPORT 2009
The summer of 2009 was the third consecutive year with wet, windy and cold weather during the emergence period for sawflies. I was not able to run my Malaise traps in the bad weather and thus the number of records for the year was less than usual. In total, there were 189 new records added to the database of which 11 were received from observers other than the county recorder. The county database now holds 3950 records of 296 species.
Report of the Wiltshire Sawfly Recorder, 2008
"The summer of 2008 was wetter, windier and colder than usual which resulted in less opportunities to record sawflies. Like most insects, sawflies prefer warmer weather to be active and thus the catch for the year was well below average."
Recording some easily-identified sawfly larvae in Wiltshire
"In Britain there are more than 500 species of sawflies and around 300 of these are known to occur in Wiltshire. The identification of adults is tricky and needs to be done by experts but some of the larvae are totally unique and unmistakable. This article introduces a few of these, some common and some less so, which can be found in Wiltshire and are all easily identified."
